Black Tea Shot

Black Tea Shot - recipe card

A concentrated black tea shot infused with honey and lemon for a quick, energizing boost. This bold, aromatic drink is perfect as a palate cleanser or a mid-afternoon pick-me-up, served warm or chilled.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons loose black tea (or 4 tea bags)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Bring 1 cup water to a rolling boil in a small saucepan over high heat. Boiling ensures proper extraction of tea compounds.
  2. Place 2 tablespoons loose black tea (or 4 tea bags) in a heatproof teapot or measuring cup. Using a heatproof container prevents cracking and allows even steeping.
  3. Pour the boiling water over the tea, cover, and let steep for exactly 5 minutes. Over-steeping will cause bitterness; use a timer for precision.
  4. Strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean measuring cup, pressing gently on the leaves to extract maximum flavor. If using bags, remove and squeeze gently to avoid bitterness from crushed leaves.
  5. Add 1 tablespoon honey and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice to the hot tea. Stir until honey is fully dissolved; the heat helps it incorporate smoothly.
  6. Let the tea cool to room temperature for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a sealed container and refrigerate until chilled, at least 1 hour, for a cold shot. Alternatively, serve warm immediately.
  7. Divide the concentrated tea evenly among 4 shot glasses (about 2 ounces each). Use a small ladle or measuring cup for even portions.
  8. Serve immediately as a neat shot, or garnish with a lemon twist if desired. For warm shots, serve in pre-warmed glasses to maintain temperature.

Notes

Store leftover tea concentrate in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. To reheat, warm gently in a small saucepan over low heat until steaming, or microwave on medium power in 15-second intervals. For iced shots, pour over ice and dilute slightly if too strong. Freezing is not recommended as honey may crystallize upon thawing.
