Bojangles Bo Sauce

Bojangles Bo Sauce

This tangy, peppery, and slightly sweet sauce mirrors the iconic Bojangles’ Bo Sauce. It’s a versatile condiment with a ketchup-mustard base, a kick of heat, and a hint of Worcestershire, perfect for dipping chicken, fries, or drizzling over biscuits.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the ketchup, yellow mustard, packed brown sugar, white vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and kosher salt. Whisk thoroughly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is a uniform reddish-brown color.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium-low heat. Cook, stirring frequently with a heat-resistant spatula or whisk, until the sauce begins to gently simmer. This should take about 2-3 minutes. You will see small bubbles forming at the edges and the aroma of the spices will become fragrant.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce cook at a gentle simmer for 2 more minutes. This allows the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking or burning on the bottom.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat. The sauce should coat the back of a spoon and have a smooth, pourable consistency. Allow it to cool to room temperature for about 5 minutes before serving. As it cools, it will thicken a bit more.
  5. Transfer the sauce to a serving bowl or an airtight container. Serve immediately with fried chicken, chicken strips, fries, or biscuits, or refrigerate for later use. The flavor deepens as it sits overnight.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. The sauce can be served cold or at room temperature. To reheat, microwave in 15-second increments, stirring between each, until just warm, or heat gently in a small saucepan over low heat.
