Raising Cane’s Sauce (Copycat)

Raising Cane's Sauce (Copycat)

Creamy, tangy, and savory with a subtle kick, this copycat Raising Cane’s sauce is a perfect dipping companion for chicken fingers, fries, or veggies. Made with a balance of mayonnaise, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce, it comes together in minutes for an addictive condiment.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (full-fat)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (such as Tabasco)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients to ensure you have everything measured and ready. Use a medium mixing bowl that allows room for whisking without splashing.
  2. Add 1/2 cup of full-fat mayonnaise to the bowl. Full-fat mayonnaise provides the rich, creamy base essential for the sauce’s texture; low-fat versions will yield a thinner, less stable result.
  3. Measure and add 1/4 cup of ketchup. Standard tomato ketchup works best; avoid spicy or flavored varieties as they will alter the signature balance.
  4. Pour in 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce. This adds depth and umami – use a quality brand for the best flavor.
  5. Add 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, and 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper. Do not substitute garlic or onion salt as they contain additional sodium and caking agents that change the seasoning balance.
  6. If using, add 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper and 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce. These are optional but mimic the original sauce’s mild heat; adjust to your preference, tasting as you go.
  7. Add 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice. The acidity brightens the sauce and cuts through the richness – bottled juice can be used, but fresh provides a cleaner, brighter flavor.
  8. Whisk all ingredients together vigorously until fully combined and smooth. Scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl to incorporate any settled spices, ensuring a uniform color and consistency.
  9. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if needed. Add a pinch more salt or a few extra drops of hot sauce for heat, keeping in mind the flavors will meld and intensify as the sauce rests.
  10. Transfer the finished sauce to an airtight container or serving bowl. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld – this step is crucial for the best taste. The sauce can be served immediately but will be sharper and less integrated.
  11. Before serving, stir the sauce briefly. If it has thickened too much after chilling, let it sit at room temperature for 10 minutes and stir again. Serve as a dip for chicken fingers, french fries, onion rings, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Stir before each use. The sauce thickens slightly upon chilling; if too thick, let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes. Do not freeze – the mayonnaise-based emulsion will break upon thawing, resulting in a grainy texture.
