Reese’s Snack Mix

Reese's Snack Mix - recipe card

This is a sweet and salty snack mix that combines crunchy peanut butter cereal, salty pretzels, and creamy, melty chocolate and peanut butter. It’s incredibly easy to make and perfect for satisfying a candy bar craving in a shareable, crunchy form.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups (4 ounces) peanut butter puffcorn cereal (like Reese’s Puffs)
  • 1 cup (2 ounces) mini pretzel twists
  • 1/2 cup (3 ounces) salted peanuts
  • 1/2 cup (3 ounces) milk chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup (2 ounces) creamy peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup (1.5 ounces) powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Set it aside. This prevents the chocolate coating from sticking and makes cleanup effortless.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the peanut butter puffcorn cereal, mini pretzels, and salted peanuts. Toss gently with your hands or a rubber spatula to distribute evenly without crushing the cereal.
  3. In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine the milk chocolate chips, creamy peanut butter, and unsalted butter. Microwave on high power in 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly after each interval, until the mixture is completely smooth and fully melted. This typically takes about 1 to 1 1/2 minutes total. Be careful not to overheat, which can cause the chocolate to seize and become grainy.
  4. Immediately pour the warm melted chocolate mixture over the dry cereal mixture. Using a rubber spatula, fold the chocolate into the dry ingredients until every piece is evenly coated. Work quickly, as the chocolate will start to set as it cools.
  5. Transfer the chocolate-coated mixture to the prepared baking sheet and spread it into a single, even layer. Use the spatula to gently separate any large clumps, ensuring the pieces are mostly individual for the best crunchy texture.
  6. Place the powdered sugar in a fine-mesh sieve. Gently tap the sieve over the snack mix, dusting the entire surface evenly with powdered sugar. This creates the signature ‘Reese’s’ white coating and balances the sweetness.
  7. Allow the snack mix to rest at room temperature for at least 1 hour, or until the chocolate is completely set and firm to the touch. For faster setting, place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes.
  8. Once set, break the mix apart into bite-sized clusters. Transfer to a serving bowl or store in an airtight container. Avoid warm or humid environments, which can cause the chocolate to soften or bloom.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. Do not refrigerate once set, as condensation can cause the coating to become sticky. For longer storage, freeze in a zip-top bag for up to 3 months; thaw at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving. To re-crisp, spread on a baking sheet and warm in a 300°F oven for 3-5 minutes, then cool completely.
