Sweetened Yogurt

Sweetened Yogurt - recipe card

A simple, versatile sweetened yogurt made with full-fat Greek yogurt and honey, balanced with vanilla and a pinch of salt. It is creamy, tangy, and lightly sweet, perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (16 oz) full-fat plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup for vegan)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • Optional toppings: fresh berries, granola, or chopped nuts (not included in nutrition)

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, add the Greek yogurt. Use full-fat Greek yogurt for the creamiest texture and richest flavor, as non-fat will be thinner and less luxurious.
  2. Drizzle the honey over the yogurt. For an even sweetness, use a runny honey that is easy to stir. If you prefer a more intense floral sweetness, consider using a strong honey like orange blossom or wildflower.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and fine sea salt. The vanilla enhances the dairy notes, while the salt balances the sweetness and reduces any sharp tanginess.
  4. Using a whisk, stir the mixture in a circular motion until the honey is fully incorporated and the yogurt becomes smooth and glossy. Whisking also aerates the yogurt, making it lighter. Be gentle to avoid breaking the yogurt’s structure.
  5. Taste the sweetened yogurt and adjust if necessary: add more honey, a teaspoon at a time, if you prefer it sweeter, or a pinch more salt if the tang is too pronounced. Remember that the flavor will slightly intensify as it rests.
  6. Immediately serve the sweetened yogurt in four small bowls. If you wish, top with fresh berries, granola, or chopped nuts, but these are optional and not included in the nutrition calculation.
  7. For a chilled dessert, refrigerate the sweetened yogurt for at least 30 minutes before serving. The cold temperature thickens the yogurt further and helps the flavors meld.
  8. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Quick stir before serving will re-smooth the yogurt if it has separated slightly.

Notes

Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Stir well before serving, as liquid may separate. Gently re-warm for a few seconds if you prefer a softer texture, or serve cold. Freezing is not recommended, as the yogurt will become watery and grainy upon thawing.
